South Australia's tourism minister says Auckland`s political leaders should realise the money-making capabilities of a gay and lesbian festival in the region. Dr Jane Lomax-Smith says her home state and the city of Adelaide endorses, supports and finances all types of festivals, including its month-long gay and lesbian event called Feast, starting late October. "There is a significant economic benefit. While it`s against the law to discriminate against race, gender or sexuality, and the bonus is it`s a really successful event, it makes economic sense because tourism dollars spread through the economy," Dr Lomax-Smith says.
