Capital's annual gay fair loses school venue

Wed 11 Sep 2002 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Wellington's annual Gay and Lesbian Fair has hit trouble with the withdrawal of Newton primary School's hall by the school's headmaster. Fair spokesperson Peter Gordon says he feels the decision is unacceptable as many of the stalls need indoor space and Wellington Gay Welfare Group has been able to make money from food prepared in the hall kitchen. Hall toilets were also available for fair patrons use. Organisers of next years fair, which would have been the 18th on the site, are casting about for an alternative venue. Newtown school was unavailable for comment.
