New Zealand cyclist Linda Villumsen has claimed the individual time trial at the Road World Cycling Championships, nabbing the coveted rainbow jersey. The Commonwealth Games gold medallist has claimed her first ever world title in Richmond, Virginia. She finished in 40 minutes 29.87 seconds, 2.54 seconds ahead of Dutch rider Anna van der Breggen. The Danish-born Kiwi has previously claimed three bronze medals and two silvers in the event, making this the biggest win of her career so far. Villumsen said after the race she just couldn’t believe it. "I came in with a big motivation and with the best team around me, it was just incredible.” Her partner, retired British cyclist Emma Trott, has been quick to express her pride on Twitter: Villumsen will be in action again as part of the New Zealand women's road race team on Saturday.
