A lesbian ball is coming back to Auckland, and it will be held in the city’s west. The group which ran the city’s annual Lesbian Ball for many years, LESO, called time in 2010, saying the organisation had served its purpose. There was a one-off ball in 2012 with the support of the Gay Auckland Business Association. Cissy Rock, of Heroes Out West and Dykes on Mics fame, says it will be the lesbian event of the year Now, women’s events organiser Cissy Rock has decided to bring a lesbian ball back. It will be held at the Corban Estate Arts Centre in Henderson on 4 December. Earlybird tickets will be available for $70 until 31 October, after which the price will rise to $90. Rock says it will be the lesbian event of the year, with a cocktail hour, supper, live music with a lesbian band and DJ past midnight. It will be held in a huge warehouse turned into a lesbian space. “Think Berlin in the 1930s, think industrial space, think lesbians,” she says. Anyone who has questions, wants to buy tickets or would like to volunteer can contact Cissy at lesbianball@gmail.com – more details on tickets etc at the Facebook event listing here
