Barnett stepping down from Labour role

Fri 11 Sep 2015 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback View at NDHA

Tim Barnett is stepping down as the General Secretary of the Labour Party, after just over three years in the role. He is taking up a new, yet-to-be announced, job in November. Labour Party President Nigel Haworth says Barnett has been a tireless servant of the party and it is with sincere regret that he has accepted his resignation. “Tim has been offered, and will accept, a new and exciting work opportunity and the entire party wishes him the best in this new role.” Barnett first entered Parliament in 1996 and as one of the nation’s first openly-gay MPs. He was an outspoken supporter of the Civil Union Bill, who later had his own civil union with partner Ramon Maniapoto.
