A sports tournament is quickly being set up to replace the Auckland Outgames. Proud to Play NZ 2016 will be held in February, with swimming, ten pin bowling and touch rugby competitions confirmed so far. Proud to Play NZ will be a sporting and cultural event. A ‘Team Auckland’ has also been created on Facebook for players and supporters, akin to the Team Wellington page which is already running. Auckland lost its right to hold the Asia Pacific Outgames next February, after the board resigned en masse and ordered the organisation set up to run the event to be wound up. It wanted the games to be delayed till November next year due to the challenge of competing with Auckland Pride Festival for sponsorship cash. A team of people tried to rally to ensure the Outgames still went ahead, but wasn’t able to satisfy governing body GLISA Asia Pacific by a deadline at the end of August. We’ll have more on the replacement tournament Proud to Play soon.In the meantime, you can find info on the following sports here: Touch competition Swimming Ten Pin Bowling
