Manson and Harris near Olympic qualification

Fri 4 Sep 2015 In: New Zealand Daily News

Robbie Manson and rowing partner Chris Harris are one race away from guaranteeing a spot at the Rio Olympics. The New Zealand double-sculls representatives have won their quarter-final at the world championships in Aiguebelette, France. They just need to finish in the top-11 among the final 12 boats in the semi-finals to secure Olympic qualification. Manson represented New Zealand in the quadruple scull at the 2012 London Olympic Games, where the crew finished seventh. He was one of New Zealand's most high-profile male athletes to come out publicly, when he spoke out about his sexuality late last year. The  Olympian told GayNZ.com he has always looked up to gay role models and wanted to come out in the hope it would make others' paths easier too.
