Sally Whitewoods, second from left. Noon: Rainbow flags are brightening up a grey, cool day in Queenstown on the eve of Gay Ski Week QT, the annual gathering of glbti winter sports enthusiasts from around New Zealand and the world. Organiser and gay community stalwart Sally Whitewoods says there have been several dumps of snow on the skifields during the week, adding to what were already "fantastic skiing conditions." She says a number of gay visitors started arriving as early as Wednesday "but most will be heading in tomorrow ready for our opening night party at The Find venue on Shotover Street." Whitewoods says ticket sales are excellent for the events earlier in the week "and experience tells us that people will commit to the later activities in the coming days as they settle in." As she puts the finishing touches to the event she and partner Mandy revived in 2011 after its previous organiser placed the event into liquidation, Whitewoods says she is rushing around doing final OSH health and safety event documentation, filling welcome packages and doing final set-up chores. But in a few hours' time she will switch off the energy and put herself in the hands of her hairdresser. a Coronet Peak run as seen via webcam a few minutes ago All skifields near Queenstown are open.
