The Ultra-Orthodox Jew who fatally stabbed a teenage girl at Jerusalem’s Pride parade has been charged with murder. Yishai Schlissel has been declared fit to stand trial Yishai Schlissel stabbed 16-year-old Shira Banki and six other people during the event last month. Banki later died in hospital. He has now been charged with one count of premeditated murder, six counts of attempted murder and with causing injuries under aggravated circumstances. Schlissel has been found fit to stand trial after a psychiatric evaluation. He continues to refuse legal representation. The 39-year-old had been released from jail just weeks before the stabbings for a similar attack at Jerusalem Pride in 2005, where he injured three people. An investigation is underway into the apparent failure of police to keep a close eye on Schlissel in the lead up to the parade, despite him being flagged as someone liable to act against members of the gay community.
