6.30am: A formal announcement is imminent on the outcome of a make-or-break meeting held on Tuesday night to decide whether the 2016 Auckland Asia Pacific Outgames will be held as scheduled. Planning for the sports, human rights and cultural festival, slated to start on February 13, was thrown into doubt when it was revealed sponsorship and other major financial support for the event had not been forthcoming. After an unsuccessful attempt to delay the games until later in 2016 the Board of the organisation overseeing the preparations for the event, Auckland Outgames 2016 Inc., resigned. Since that mass resignation, on July 18, a small group of the organisation's executive committee have been working to come up with a more community-based model to keep the event on track. The regional organisation which has ultimate responsibility for the event and which issues the license to run it, the Gay and Lesbian International Sports Association Asia Pacific, was convening a meeting of its member organisations on Tuesday evening Australian time and GayNZ.com Daily News understands an announcement on the result of that meeting may be issued today.
