Wed 12 Aug 2015 In: New Zealand Daily News

Former New Zealand Olympian Sir John Walker says if he saw Caitlyn Jenner he would use male pronouns, and her former male name. Sir John won gold in the 1500 metres at the 1976 Olympics, where Jenner took out gold in the decathlon. The New Zealander spoke with Peter Williams on TVNZ’s Breakfast this morning, where the Williams pointed out that during the 1976 Montreal Olympics, Sir John and Jenner were “two of the big stars”. “To me ‘he’s’ still ‘Bruce’,” Sir John stated, laughing. “If ‘he’ wants to feel like that then good luck to him,” he continued. “I mean if I saw him I’d still call 'him' 'Bruce'.”Sir John is a member of Auckland Council, representing Manurewa-Papakura. Today marks 40 years since he ran a historic sub 3:50 mile.
