Street in Iceland given a rainbow makeover

Sat 8 Aug 2015 In: International News View at Wayback

Never mind a crossing, an entire street has been painted in rainbow colours for Reykjavik's Pride. It was painted by hand, with dozens of people pitching in. "It was lovely. A large number of children lent us a hand and some even brought their own paint brushes," says Reykjavik Pride director Eva Maria Thorarinsdottir Lange. Even the local Mayor Dagur Eggertsson donned a paintbrush to help with the inner-city makeover in Iceland's capital. Eggertsson describes the rainbow as "more powerful and beautiful" than he could have imagined. "This is one way to make our city livelier, more human and simply a better place by great collaboration and beautiful thinking," he says. The rainbow will reportedly be kept until the end of the summer.
