"I am truly sorry" – Tim Wilson apologises

Sun 19 Jul 2015 In: New Zealand Daily News

Tim Wilson has apologised on his Newstalk ZB show tonight, over Friday night's talkback session on gender diversity. The broadcaster has been criticised for stating Statistics New Zealand’s new gender diverse category was “nuts” and “crazy”, and claiming it would be “dangerous” to legitimise people’s gender identity. He also compared being trans to living in Invercargill or feeling like a frog, in a show which received a range of responses from callers. Read the full story here “I’ve been thinking on Friday’s show, reflecting on Friday’s show,” Wilson stated, in opening his show tonight. “We had a pretty robust sort of a show. I’ve got to comment. Prejudice is always wrong and transgender and intersex people – they’re unique. And they have so much to teach us. I wanted a lively and balanced show, and some of you didn’t feel that was the case. And for that, I am truly sorry.”
