Thu 16 Jul 2015 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Auckland’s lgbti and welcoming touch rugby team the LYC Chargers have made the final of a top-tier Auckland Central competition, and would love community support. They will play the ‘Snakez’ in the final of the Auckland Central Mixed A grade Autumn touch tournament, at the Cage on Mountain Rd in Newmarket, at 6.10PM on Monday 20 July. Team spokesman Dion Hosking says they will be looking to create a bit of lgbti history. “Well let's say build on top of the history we already have created,” he explains. “Last season we were the first lgbti team to contest an A grade qualifying final, eventually finishing third. “This season we have made the big dance and we have a real shot at winning this game.” The Chargers went 1-1 with their opponents during the season, losing lost 3-2 in their first match, then beating them 3-0 in their most recent game. Dion says the Snakez play hard and fast so it’s going to be a big test. “Bring along some friends and whānau to cheer the team on.” Support the Chargers: Field 1, The Cage, Mountain Rd, Newmarket.
