Women's events on the way for Wellington

Thu 9 Jul 2015 In: New Zealand Daily News

A mid-winter women’s dance and pair of film screenings are coming up in Wellington this month, and all women are welcome. On Saturday 25 July, Wellington's lesbian library LILAC is hosting a dance at Thistle Hall on Cuba St. The R18 event will be BYO, with supper supplied, and Dj Bullitt is spinning the discs. Thistle Hall is a fully accessible venue, with a lift right to the dancefloor. More details on Facebook here Earlier in the evening, event organisers Polari are also inviting people to head along as a group to the New Zealand International Film Festival screening of Grandma, at the Penthouse Cinema at 6.15pm, before heading on to the dance, or drinks The Salty Pidgin across the road. Grandma stars Lily Tomlin, and Polari says as there is no Out Takes Film Festival this year, they are creating their own Lesbian Gala film night. Polari is also getting together to watch Girlhood on Monday 27 July, and will also have one of its regular catch-ups at Poquito Cafe and Bar on Tory St on Friday 24 July. Find out more about Polari’s events on its Facebook page here Meanwhile in Auckland the Lesbian Ball is expected to make a comeback out west this year. We’ll have more details when they are pinned down.
