Dunedin calls for intersex Census option

Wed 1 Jul 2015 In: New Zealand Daily News

The Dunedin City Council will ask the Government to add intersex as an option in the next Census. The Otago Daily Times reports Counsellor Aaron Hawkins raised the idea, and got the support of his colleagues, during a full council meeting. Hawkins said the option could be used by those who were born neither fully male nor female, or people transitioning from one sex to the other, when answering the census question on gender. It comes as Statistics New Zealand is calling for feedback on Census questions. Submissions on the 2018 census close on July 3rd and can be made here.
