Clinton celebrates lgbti rights in new video

Thu 25 Jun 2015 In: International News

One of the couples featured in the video Hillary Clinton has released a new video backing marriage equality, to mark Pride month in the US. The clip from the Democrat presidential hopeful shows a range of couples getting married. “Some have suggested that gay rights and human rights are separate and distinct,” Clinton says in the video. “But in fact, they are one in the same.” “Being lgbt does not make you less human,” she says. “That is why gay rights are human rights, and human rights are gay rights.” The former Secretary of State and First Lady previously sought the Democratic nomination in 2008, but lost to Barack Obama. She first announced her support for marriage equality in 2013, and has stood up for lgbt rights on the world stage numerous times. The US is still awaiting a ruling from the Supreme Court on marriage equality.
