US Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee claims accepting court-ordered marriage equality would be like accepting slavery. He has encouraged civil disobedience if the Supreme Court rules in favour of same-sex marriage, in a decision which could come out this week. In an interview with Fox News, Huckabee questioned what could have happened if there was no civil disobedience when the Supreme Court ruled in 1857 that African-Americans could not be considered US citizens. "What if the entire country had capitulated to judicial tyranny and we just said that because the Supreme Court said in 1857 said that a black person wasn’t fully human? Suppose we had accepted that, suppose Abraham Lincoln, our president, had accepted that, would that have been the right course of action?" He added that when the civil government “has acted outside of nature, and nature's God, outside of the bounds of the law, outside of the bounds of the Constitution”, civil disobedience is the “right and moral thing to do”.
