Conservatives could be about to roll Craig

Fri 19 Jun 2015 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

UPDATED10.49AM: Colin Craig will front a media conference this afternoon as questions swirl about his continued leadership of the Conservative Party. The board is believed to be unhappy with an interview Craig did with TV3’s David Farrier in a sauna for new late night news and entertainment show Newsworthy. TV3 says a party insider has described it as “kooky Colin and crazy Colin all over again". There have been rumours of dissatisfaction with Craig’s leadership for months. Garth McVicar, who shares Craigs’ anti-gay views, was tipped as a potential replacement. However McVicar has ruled out becoming leader, as he is now back with the Sensible Sentencing Trust. Christine Rankin is now being tipped as a possible new leader. Craig says he is not aware of any planned coup. One of the most outspoken New Zealanders against marriage equality, he believes being gay is abnormal and a choice, and says he could be gay if he wanted to.
