Bid to strip Jenner of medal dismissed

Mon 8 Jun 2015 In: International News View at Wayback

The International Olympic Committee has dismissed a call for Caitlyn Jenner to be stripped of her medal – and in fact her name could be updated in official US Olympic records. A petition cropped up on Change.org calling for her gold medal in the men’s 1976 Olympic decathlon to be revoked. “We urge Ms Jenner to support the transgender community by giving up the medals earned by competing against the wrong gender,” it reads. There has been some speculation the petition was supposed to be a joke, but either way, the IOC says it’s not interested. The US Olympic Committee has added it admires Jenner’s courage and would consider any athlete’s request to have their personal information updated in its records.
