Fri 5 Jun 2015 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Cathy Casey Applications open on Tuesday for places on Auckland Council's Rainbow Communities' Advisory Panel. Anyone who wants to apply needs to be a New Zealand resident, who lives in Auckland. Auckland Council says they will be assessed on the following: 1. Ability to think strategically and critically on issues and trends specific to their area of interest 2. Knowledge of the main issues for Rainbow communities, as well expertise in one or more issues of particular relevance/significance for those communities 3. Sound understanding of community perspectives, dynamics, key organisations and networks 4. Experience of a governance and advisory role. Councillor Cathy Casey will be the liaison councillor for the panel. She says the initiative is overdue. "It's important this part of the community feels engaged and well represented. We want to make sure we have a very colourful Rainbow panel.” She says it's interesting it comes as Auckland has been included among the cities featured in Lonely Planet's new Guide to Pride. Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed by a selection panel comprising Councillor Casey, a senior council manager, and three yet unnamed members of the community with appropriate expertise. In all, there will be 10-13 members who will be paid a meeting fee of $250. The panel will meet every six weeks. Applications are open from 9 June 2015 to 24 June and are available here, and from council libraries and customer service centres. Completed forms should be emailed to ACadvisorypanels@madison.co.nz or posted to Madison Recruitment Ltd, PO Box 105 675, Auckland 1143.
