James Shaw voted new Greens co-leader

Sat 30 May 2015 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

James Shaw is the new male co-leader of the Green Party, in a relatively close race with Kevin Hague for the role. It was a two horse race, with Shaw attracting 54 per cent support, and Hague 44 per cent. If Hague had the role he would have been the first openly-gay leader of a New Zealand political party. James Shaw entered parliament at the last election. He comes from a business background. He has paid tribute to Hague as an “extraordinary, warm, strategic, intelligent and graceful human being” with great experience. No matter who leads the party, the Greens have made it clear they remain committed to progressing lgbti rights and advocating for the community.
