Outgames to showcase dragon boating

Fri 29 May 2015 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

A dragon boating exhibition day has been added to the line-up for the Asia Pacific Outgames in Auckland next year. Organisers say it will be a chance for people to give the sport of Dragon Boating a go in a safe and fun environment. Discussions are also underway into including archery and martial arts open days as part of the Outgames. "This will be an environment where individuals and teams from other sports can participate in a different sport as well as engage with other people within the LGBTQI Community who have similar interests," says Sports Director Kent Phillips. The games are coming to Auckland from 13-20 February and will feature competition in 21 sports. Most will be held in and around the Henderson Sports Hub, with The West Wave Pool and Leisure Centre, Henderson Squash Club, Pins Lincoln and Te Pai Place Tennis Club all hosting their various codes. Organisers say the remaining sports, for varying reasons, will be held across the city. Specific sporting code details, maps and registrations will be on the Auckland 2016 website in the coming weeks.
