The early indication is that voters have backed same-sex marriage in a history-making Irish referendum. Ireland's Equality Minister Aodhan O'Riordain told Reuters “I think it's won.” He adds: “I've seen bellwether boxes open, middle-of-the road areas who wouldn't necessarily be liberal and they are resoundingly voting yes.” The Irish Times reports the general consensus emerging is that the amendment “will be passed with a two to one majority across the country”. There are few, if any, polling locations where the ‘No' vote is in the lead. In more conservative areas, the vote is coming in at 50:50. The 'No' campaign's most prominent spokesman also appears to have conceded defeat:
