The boards of the two groups which run the Outgames and the Gay Games have announced they are planning a joint global event for 2022. A contract dispute over the planned Montreal Gay Games sparked a splinter group to form Outgames in 2003. The two events have been run separately since. Now the boards of the Federation of Gay Games (FGG) and the Gay and Lesbian International Sports Organization (GLISA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the development and production of One World Event to be held in 2022. It follows a survey which called for a single sports, human rights, and culture event. The World OutGames will still be held in Miami Beach, Florida, in 2017.
