An Auckland man has admitted a number of child abuse offences, including beating his daughter because he thought she might be a lesbian. The New Zealand Herald reports the Muslim man has admitted 16 counts of abuse, including hitting and slapping his six children, and striking a child with a horse whip. His wife pleaded guilty to two counts of assault on a child at their appearance in Auckland District Court this morning. Court documents say on one occasion the man "became enraged" after hearing his teenage daughter had hugged and kissed a female friend in school as a greeting, "sparking rumours of lesbianism". He was angry because homosexuality "is contrary and in direct conflict to his interpretation of the Islamic faith", the summary of facts said.
