A public memorial service for Jack Body will be held at Wellington’s St Andrew's on The Terrace on Sunday 24 May. The celebrated gay New Zealand composer died at Mary Potter Hospice on 10 May, just days after he was honoured with a prestigious Arts Foundation of New Zealand Icon Award, Whakamana Hiranga. He was 70. Body leaves behind his partner Yono. He is having a private funeral. The public memorial service will be held at 2pm, Sunday 24 May at St Andrews on the Terrace. The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra will pay tribute to Body at its next concert on May 16 in Wellington.
