Perth: Pair jailed over gay man's murder

Mon 20 Apr 2015 In: International News View at Wayback

Warren Batchelor had been a well-known Sydney DJ under the moniker DJ Coco. Perth: Two men have been jailed for life, and must serve at least 21 years, for the murder of a gay man in a public toilet. Warren Batchelor, 48, has been having sex with another man in the toilets at the Middle Swan Reserve in November 2013, when Mark Taylor and Daniel Wade Jones burst in and attacked him. ABC reports Taylor threatened the two men with a knife and punched and kicked Mr Batchelor while Jones beat him with a pole. He died in hospital two days later. The man he'd been having sex with managed to escape - and later gave evidence in the case. The killers had been camping in the area, one with his children, and the court heard they were angry when they heard the toilets were a place men had sex. The judge in the case said the men were motivated “by prejudice and hostility".
