The deportation of a Libyan man accused of being gay from Egypt may have set a precedent. The Guardian reports an Egyptian court has upheld the deportation of the student, who wanted to finish his studies in Cairo. He was arrested in 2008 and deported after a legal complaint was filed alleging that he was gay. He appealed, but the judge found the interior ministry had acted lawfully in order to “prevent the spreading of social ills.”. Experts say the wording of the law renders it open to broad interpretation. Read more here
