The deportation of a Libyan man accused of being gay from Egypt may have set a precedent. The Guardian reports an Egyptian court has upheld the deportation of the student, who wanted to finish his studies in Cairo. He was arrested in 2008 and deported after a legal complaint was filed alleging that he was gay. He appealed, but the judge found the interior ministry had acted lawfully in order to “prevent the spreading of social ills.”.
