Tue 31 Mar 2015 In: New Zealand Daily News View at NDHA

Around 60 donors have chipped in to help an up and coming young transgender actress take part in a drama workshop. Te Awairangi is a talented actress who can now take part in an intensive drama workshop Thanks to the just over $1,000 raised, Central North Island high school student Te Awarangi, known as “Awa”, can now attend the April Drama Intensive at the Creative and Performing Arts School at Scots College in Wellington. One of the school’s tutors, Miranda Harcourt, recognised Awa’s talent and approached trans woman and theatre stalwart Lexie Matheson and asked her to help out. A grassroots fundraising campaign via social media has been successful. Awa’s family has responded by saying it’s such exciting news. “We are all humbled and over the moon about how incredible everyone's been. Grateful, thankful appreciative...we don't know what to say. We haven't seen Te Awarangi so happy in a long time!”
