Aus Senate to debate marriage equality

Fri 20 Mar 2015 In: International News View at Wayback View at NDHA

Australia's Senate will debate a same-sex marriage bill next week. Liberal Democrats senator David Leyonhjelm says he isn't expecting his bill to go to a vote, as he doesn't have the numbers to pass it. He wants Prime Minister Tony Abbott to use the opportunity to allow a free vote for his ministers. Unless Abbott allows his minister a free vote, they have to resign to cross the floor. Backbenchers can vote as they wish. The bill is set to debated on Thursday.
