An Auckland Council hearings panel has recommended inner-city bars retain their 4am closing time. A packed crowd at K' Rd's Family Bar That would include bars in K' Rd and Ponsonby, which host Auckland's few remaining gay bars. There was concern that further cutting closing hours till 3am would hurt the city's gay nightlife, and the dance party scene. Under the panel's recommendations, bars outside the Auckland CBD would close at 3am. It also suggests cutting supermarket and off-licence opening hours from 7am-11pm, to 9am-9pm and a moratorium on new off licences in many areas of the Auckland. The Council will vote on the recommendations in May.
