Out in the (Car)Park fair rescheduled

Mon 9 Mar 2015 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback View at NDHA

After losing its battle with the February weather Wellington's biggest event of the glbti year has been reinvented as Out In The (Car)Park and will be held on March 29th. The annual Out In The Square fair and fun day was this year re-branded as Out In The Park and was to have been held for the first time in Waitangi Park with a symbolic Love Parade between the old and new locations. Foul weather meant the abandonment of those plans but the organisers have now announced a replacement fair to be held from midday through to 5pm on the corner of inner-city Ghuznee and Leeds Streets as part of Wellington's CubaDupa festival. “Postponing the Fair was a tough decision, but it was the right one. The extreme winds made it much too dangerous to set up gazebos that weekend. We are excited about this new opportunity to hold it as part of a large and dynamic Festival like CubaDupa” explains Parker-Bowles. “When it was clear the Fair couldn’t be held in February, the support from the community was amazing. They turned out in force at the Lust party fundraiser, they went to the brilliant mini Fair that a group of stallholders set up, and also to the fundraiser at Bad Grannies that featured many of the performers we’d booked for the Fair. So many people came up to members of the team and wished us well, it was quite overwhelming. Joining the CubaDupa programme gives us another shot at having the Fair, and we are grateful for that chance”. The Sunday 29th fair will start with a re-scheduled Love Parade, routed from Civic Square, up Cuba Street to Ghuznee.
