LYC boxer billboard complaint dismissed

Wed 4 Mar 2015 In: New Zealand Daily News

Another complaint about a Love Your Condom billboard has been dismissed by the Advertising Standards Authority. Two people complained that a billboard showing a boxer which read “Getting in the ring? Gear Up #loveyourcondom”, was “offensive” “sexually explicit” and “inappropriate for a public place”. The complaint is the latest in a long list of objections to billboards from the New Zealand AIDS Foundation’s safe sex promotion arms Love Your Condom and Get It On. All have been thrown out. The Advertising Standards Authority referred to those precedents and ruled this billboard was actually less provocative than some in the past. It says it did not contain any salacious images and was not of an explicit nature and used humour to raise awareness about an important health issue, in line with its target audience.
