Girl on a Corner has taken out two major Auckland Fringe Awards, while Live Orgy has also been honoured and Legacy Project and Rising Voices commended. Amanaki Prescott and ensemble won Best Performance Theatre for Girl On A Corner, while the production also won Best Direction, for Anapela Polataivo and Vela Manusaute from Kila Kokonut Krew. The Victor Rodger play tells the story of Shalimar Seiuli, a Samoan fa'afafine prostitute Eddie Murphy picked up on Santa Monica Boulevard in 1997. GayNZ.com reviewer Lexie Matheson judged the play among her picks of Auckland Pride Festival – it was a join Auckland Pride and Auckland Fringe production. Freya Desmarais’ play looking at sex ed and rape culture, Live Orgy, won the Social Impact award. Fellow co Pride and Fringe productions, Legacy Project and Rising Voices Summer Series, were both Highly Commended in the category.
