So you're Christchurch's Mr Hunky Spunk 2007! What did you have to do on stage to win? The competition night was almost as nerve wracking as jumping out of a plane strapped to a parachute. But to win it was a cinch really, I simply took pride in what I was doing, which was parading around in the best of what I had available - as most of my clothes were at my mum's in Sydney! I gave it all I had. What prizes did you win? To be exact would be telling too much! One night's accommodation for two at Dorothy's (Boutique hotel and restaurant) including dinner and Bowlerama tickets - cuz ya wouldn't wanna spend all night in the room. 200 bucks (which came in handy), a toiletry pack, two bottles of Champagne. A bunch of flowers... oh, chocolates too. Are you a Christchurch local? Yes I am Christchurch born and went to live in Sydney when I was an 18-year-old lad to work. I'm now back here and am a keen investor in property. What's it like being an openly gay man in Christchurch? It's hard being gay here as it's so small, and everyone gossips… it's just ya don't hear about it in Sydney cuz it's a lot bigger. But overall its what you make it, and sometimes you have to make your own fun - but that's always been this way here. What's the Christchurch gay nightlife like? The nightlife here leaves a lot to be desired and lacks a little bit of the fun factor I think - and people should smile more. But again its what you make of it. Sticking together is good sometimes, but putting yourself outside your comfort zone you meet different people. I don't go out a lot here, as all I really go for is to dance and be free - but it's hard steering away from the bar. When did you come out as gay, and what was it like for you at the time? I came out about four years ago in Sydney and it was the best experience I have ever had I think, as Sydney is a lot of fun. I soon realized there more to life though, and began focusing on dreams and goals. I was lucky I guess, as others I know have a much harder time. What's your relationship status? I always mingle and try and stay single. Youth is for living, but soon I think it's time to settle Gretel. Favourite music at the moment? All of the good stuff like Fergie and Nelly, and Led Zeppelin. A wide range. My favourite style is probably dance. Favourite movies? Comedies - I need to laugh! Favourite TV programmes? Where did MacGyver go? I don't watch much TV, but The Simpsons. I do watch the UKTV channel on Sky. Favourite websites (apart from GayNZ.com)? Gaydar and TradeMe Who in the world (including NZ) would you most like to have dinner with and why? I'd love to have dinner with Elton John. I remember seeing his concert when I was about five, (from the outside as dad couldn't afford tickets) and thinking wow, I like a man who can play piano. Touches my heart! GayNZ.com - 31st March 2007
