Nikki Kaye says she’s received more support than negativity about National marching in the Auckland Pride Parade for the first time. The National contingent received jeers from some in the crowd on Saturday night, and has also been heavily criticised for including two MPs who voted against marriage equality. “As many people know, I have personally been a strong advocate to help the parade come back to Auckland. Before the parade, many people asked me whether we would be part of it this year,” Nikki Kaye tells GayNZ.com Daily News. “While not everyone will be supportive, overall I’ve received really good feedback about National being there for the first time, both during and after the parade. “Not everyone in Parliament voted for marriage equality, but I believe the future in terms of making progress on lgbti issues is about being inclusive, and having as many MPs as possible taking part and being part of a positive conversation."
