Club Q announces its 'last hurrah' party

Wed 25 Feb 2015 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Palmerston North’s Club Q is closing down, and will go out with a final farewell party this Saturday night. “The Last Hurrah” gets underway after 9pm. Club Q is a volunteer-run lgbti social club which has historically provided the main income for the long-running Manawatu Lesbian and Gay Rights Association, better known simply as MaLGRA. It’s struggled in more recent times with a drop in patronage and a low volunteer pool. Volunteers have tried to make changes to secure its survival, such as running more events and rallying the community for support - however there has been no real change. The decision to close was made at a Special General Meeting on Friday night. Entry to Saturday night’s function is $10 on the door.
