Touch team the LYC Chargers have thanked all their supporters after their hard-fought semi-final on Monday night. The team went down 5-4 to their top-ranked opponents, who scored just as the final hooter sounded. However they are believed to be the first lgbti and inclusive team to make the semis in a top-tier touch competition. Captain Dion Hosking says the team had a never say die attitude and left everything it had out on the field in their play-off, in the Mixed A Grade competition at Auckland’s Victoria Park. “It is hard to find the words to explain the intensity and passion of which this game was played with. There was a lot on the sidelines and the LYC Chargers certainly were not going to go down without a fight and what a battle it was, it had a bit of everything, drama, amazing sportsmanship, teamwork, encouragement, smiles, laughter, and ability.” He says the camaraderie and encouragement was outstanding to see and inspirational. The side faced a few calls which didn’t go their way and the introduction of a rule they haven’t had in three seasons, but Hosking says they just got on with the task. He has thanked all those who came down to support the team, who will now play off for third place. The team is still looking for sponsorship or donations for next season, and more female players.
