Two police stations, a bank and two ATMs were hit with pink paint in an overnight protest attack. Police say their Avondale and Ponsonby stations were targeted, along with the ANZ Ponsonby branch, and ATMs in Avondale and Mt Eden. Ponsonby Police Station this morning The anonymous group Queers Against Injustice has claimed responsibility. It also says it threw paint at the ANZ GAYTM on Ponsonby Rd last week. City Western Area Commander Inspector Jacqui Whittaker, who marched with police in Saturday's Auckland Pride Parade, says it's disappointing that “a seemingly small group of ill-informed and intolerant activists” are prepared to direct their prejudices at police and the bank. "I'd certainly welcome the opportunity to discuss this group's issues with them, in person and with no paint tins around. "Police generally and I personally are proud of the fact we embrace diversity when it comes to those communities we police and the people we work with." Anyone with information about who's responsible for the 'paint-bombing' should contact Constable Andrew Spraggs at Avondale Police Station - andrew.spraggs@police.govt.nz or 021 191 2897. The group which carried out the protest at the Auckland Pride Parade on Saturday has previously stated it's not affiliated with Queers Against Injustice, but some members sympathise with its cause.
