Lesbian singer Lesley Gore, known for 60s classics like It’s My Party has died in New York, from cancer. Gore was just a teenager when she was signed by Quincy Jones who produced It’s My Party, which went to number one in 1963. She followed up with other big sellers, Judy's Turn to Cry, She’s a Fool, You Don’t Own Me and Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows. After a time living a private life, Gore resurfaced in 1980 and helped her brother co-write the Fame soundtrack. She came out in 2005, while hosting a series called In the Life, which focused on lgbt issues, and revealed she had been with her partner Lois Sasson since 1982. "She was a wonderful human being – caring, giving, a great feminist, great woman, great human being, great humanitarian," Sasson has told the Associated Press. Lesley Gore was 68.
