Tough choice made to can Out in the Park

Sat 14 Feb 2015 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

UPDATED: Out in the Park's been cancelled after careful and long consideration from disappointed organisers, who will now negotiate with Wellington City Council about the possibility of holding the event in March. "We are really sorry to break the bad news again," they say. The event was originally supposed to be held today, but stormy weather meant it was postponed till today - but now it has been cancelled. "The weather makes it difficult and the wind is too strong to hold a safe Fair," organisers say. "We already had gazebos flying around during set-up yesterday." They add, "Please, understand that this decision is not easy and we have to take a lot of things in consideration." Organisers are encouraging people to head along to what was supposed to be the after-party tonight. Lust is being held at Ivy, with planned Out in the Park main act The Johnnys playing from 9pm. Tomorrow there will also be an Out in the Park fundraiser at Bad Grannies on Cuba St from 3pm, which will feature some of the fair’s planned performers. They will include Amanduh la Whore, Kola Gin, Gen Fowler, Medulla Oblongata, Ladyfruit and The Klaus Vermillion Quartet. “The weather has dealt us a blow, but we’re fighting back with a fundraiser featuring some of our keenest performers from the Fair,” organisers say. Entry is $10 waged, $5 unwaged, at the door.
