Kiss "the hottest boy" ad not offensive

Thu 12 Feb 2015 In: New Zealand Daily News

Complaints an ad for Lynx hair product is “offensive”, because a man kisses another man, have been dismissed. All about seizing the moment, the ad features a male kiss inspired by classic black and white films. “Now can be amazing,” it says. “Go out, see amazing things. Get an amazing job. Kiss the hottest girl – or the hottest boy.” L Levao complained that they were not impressed with the ad being shown during 3News, which they were watching with their family. “You need to take into consideration homosexuality is still offensive and considered an immoral act to families who adhere to Christian values. It would be better suited at a later time slot along with other adult program viewing.” Others complained about the ad showing two men kissing in general. Once again, the Advertising Standards Authority has made it clear that “the depiction of homosexuality” is not grounds for complaint in itself. Its Complaints Board points out the ad has a 'G' rating, which means it can be broadcast at any time to any audience. It found it's not likely to cause either serious or widespread offence - "in light of generally prevailing community standards".
