An upcoming exhibition will feature photos taken by supporters of Body Positive Wellington, who were taught photography especially for the initiative. ‘The Snapshot Sessions: re-framing the self’ is the result of the latest in a series of workshops run by photographer Steve McVey who asks those taking part to reflect on concept of self. Selected images the Body Positive crew took from October to December last year have been edited and put together for the exhibition, which opens at Thistle Hall Gallery on 16 February. The Snapshot Sessions are part of ongoing research by McVey which “attempts to blend social and psychic systems into the world of meaning and material through the practice of photography”. All works on show will be available for purchase. All proceeds will go to Body Positive, which helps break down isolation and builds a sense of community for people living with HIV in New Zealand.
