Transparent has two awards at the Golden Globes, while Matt Bomer has picked up an acting award for The Normal Heart. Jeffrey Tambor won Best Actor in a Television Series, Comedy or Musical. In accepting the award for Best TV Series, Comedy or Musical, Transparent creator Jill Soloway thanked the trans community and dedicated the award to Leelah Alcorn "and too many trans people who die who young", as well as her own trans parent, who inspired the show. "I would like to dedicate my performance and this award to the transgender community,” he said in accepting the Globe. “Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, for your courage, thank you for your inspiration, thank you for your patience, and thank you for letting us be a part of the change." Gay actor Matt Bomer won Best Supporting Actor in a TV Movie or Series for The Normal Heart. Based on Larry Kramer’s Tony Award winning play, it tells the story of the onset of the HIV-AIDS crisis in New York City in the early 1980s. On stage, Bomer thanked his husband and children, adding: “And to the generation that we’ve lost and the people we continue to lose to this disease, I just want to say – we love you, we remember you.” Kevin Spacey won Best Actor in a TV drama for his role as conniving, political heavyweight Frank Underwood on House of Cards, a character with ambiguous sexuality. TV shows with lgbti storylines nominated included Transparent, Orange Is the New Black, House of Cards, How to Get Away With Murder and American Horror Story: Freak Show. Movies included Pride, The Imitation Game and The Normal Heart.
