A swag of lgbti-interest films and TV shows are up for Golden Globes this afternoon, as are a few out actors. The Imitation Game is up for Best Motion Picture, Drama, while Benedict Cumberbatch is nominated for Best Actor for his portrayal of gay codebreaker Alan Turing. The film, which has divided viewers and been criticised for its questionable retelling of history, is also in the running for Best Screenplay and Best Original Score. Wrestling thriller Foxcatcher, a film with gay undertones which has been accused of perpetuating homophobia by some critics, is also nominated for Best Motion Picture, Drama, with Steve Carrell up for Best Actor for his depiction of wrestling fanatic John du Pont. Pride, a film about lgbti activists supporting the course of striking miners, is up for Best Comedy or Musical. Gay actor Matt Bomer and co-star Mark Ruffalo are nominated for acting awards for the TV/movie take on Larry Kramer’s The Normal Heart, while the film is up for Best TV Movie or Mini-Series. Transparent Among the other actors playing lgbti characters who are nominated for Golden Globes are Taylor Schilling as Piper Chapman and Uzo Aduba as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren in Orange is the New Black. Kevin Spacey in nominated for his role as Francis Underwood on House of Cards, while Jeffrey Tambor is in the running for an award for his portrayal of trans woman Maura Pfefferman on Transparent. TV shows with lgbti storylines nominated include Transparent, Orange Is the New Black, House of Cards, How to Get Away With Murder and American Horror Story: Freak Show. Out actor Jim Parsons is again up for his work on The Big Bang Theory, while Alan Cumming is nominated for The Good Wife. The Golden Globes will screen on Sky’s Vibe channel from 2PM.
