Vietnam's same-sex union ban ends

Wed 7 Jan 2015 In: International News View at Wayback

File Photo Same-sex unions are no longer banned in Vietnam, however they won’t actually be legally recognised. DTI News reports a law change which came into effect on 1 January means lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people can marry and co-habitat without being interfered or fined. However a Justice official says it doesn’t change marriage laws, and any same-sex unions will not be officially recognised. "They can organise wedding parties and live together but their marriage is not legally recognised by a certificate of marriage," that official, Ming Hong, says.
