Urzila Carlson has been named New Zealand’s best female comedian for the fifth year running. The show she is a regular on, 7 Days, also won Best on the Box at the New Zealand Comedy Guild Awards. The prizes were handed out at The Classic last night. Picture: Twitter Carlson has also won the TV3 People’s Choice Award for the past two years running. She says she feels privileged to be in the industry she’s in. The latest award comes over just a month after she married her partner Julie. Carlson’s status as a devout ‘lesbetarian’ is well known, as something she regularly brings up in her shows. She says the public was really nice about the news she was getting married - with many fans actually offering to bake a cake for the occasion. “People have no issue one way or the other about my sexuality and that's how I think it should be. In a perfect world people should give less of a shit about my sexuality than they do about my favourite colour … which is green or really any earthy tone, brown and orange is good too,” she told GayNZ.com at the time.
