An American televangelist has sparked ridicule from around the globe after claiming gay people will die out because they ‘don’t reproduce’. Pat Robertson made the statement in response to a viewer in a church which members aren’t allowed to date each other. "You know those who are homosexual will die out because they don't reproduce. You have to have heterosexual sex to reproduce. Same thing with that church. It's doomed. It's going to die out, 'cause it's the most nonsensical thing I have heard in a long time. This is absurd.” What many around the world are finding absurd is his statement, as of course many gay people are parents, and studies show the children of gay parents are no more or less likely to be gay than the children of straight parents. “Just a hunch, but I think the 84-year-old Robertson might die out before gays do,” writes Ed Kennedy on The Backlot. “Besides the fact that we have more and more options for reproducing these days, straight people seem awfully good at making gay kids, so I think we’re safe.”
