Tori Johnson died in hospital on Tuesday The family of the gay manager of Sydney’s Lindt Chocolat Café, who is reported to have died while helping other hostages escape, say he was "the most amazing life partner, son and brother" they could ever wish for. There are reports Tori Johnson was shot dead when he tried to wrestle the weapon from gunman Man Haron Monis, to allow the other captives to get out. Sydney barrister Katrina Dawson is the other hostage who was killed - there are reports she had been protecting a pregnant colleague. Monis died when police raided the café after the 16 hour siege, which had begun on Monday morning. Police will not comment on what happened in the café, saying they are still piecing events together, and the investigation could take many months. Tori Johnson, 34, had managed the café for two years. He lived in Redfern with partner of 14 years, Thomas Zinn. Johnson was the son of Australian artist Ken Johnson and his former wife Rowena. The family have released a statement via a journalist, saying "We are so proud of our beautiful boy Tori, gone from this earth but forever in our memories as the most amazing life partner, son and brother we could ever wish for. "We feel heartfelt sorrow for the family of Katrina Dawson. "We'd like to thank not only our friends and loved ones for their support, but the people of Sydney; Australia and those around the world for reaching out with their thoughts and prayers. "Our deepest gratitude to the NSW police, armed forces and paramedics for their tireless efforts. "We ask that the media respects our privacy in this difficult time. "Let us all pray for peace on earth."
